Canvas Framing

At The Bespoke Framer, If you have a canvas painting that needs re-stretching or a rolled canvas that needs new stretcher bars, we are here for you.

Our clients often receive art on canvas that has been removed from its original stretcher bars, rolled up and transported in a tube from their travels abroad or purchased directly through the artist or gallery and couriered to their door. The canvas usually requires stretching or re-stretching before it can be displayed.

Stretching a canvas requires careful measuring in order to ensure the correct stretcher bars are used, taking into consideration the depth of the original bars that were used by the artist.

The canvas is then carefully stretched and manipulated around the bars and secured in the back.

We have sourced a reputable manufacturer of stretcher bars who’s timber is obtained from renewable managed sources. 100% UK manufactured.

Alternatively, if stretcher bars are not suitable for your canvas, we have the option of dry mounting. The process of dry mounting requires your item to be adhered to a rigid substrate, using heated glues. Unfortunately this is not a reversible process so will devalue your item and isn’t recommended for items of financial value.

Once your canvas is stretched you have the option of displaying it as it is with fixings on the back, usually with wire ready for it to be hung on your wall. Alternatively, adding a frame to your canvas can add an extra dimension to your art and in most cases this is the perfect way to finish it. A frame can help with a specific interior design requirement, adding a frames shape or accent colour to incorporate into your home.

At the bespoke framer we offer a variety of options to frame your canvas with our range of frames. Tray frames or deep rebated box frames to accommodate the size of canvas bars. A member of the team will guide and advise you.

Canvases are not usually glazed but can be placed in a box frame if required, adding additional depth for glass.

If fading or discolouration is an issue then we would always recommend UV filtering glass.
